You have just moved into an apartment and you really want to make the space feel personal, but that can seem challenging when you are renting and have specific regulations to follow. Moreover, you are dealing with limited space, making it even more difficult to decorate. That said, with the right tricks, living in an apartment can be a truly enjoyable experience. Here are a few hacks to help you make the most of your new apartment!

1. Infuse Personality into the Walls

You have just moved into your new apartment and even with all your furniture, you may find that the walls still look drab and lackluster. Oftentimes the paint colors in apartments are less than stellar, but there are things you can do to brighten the space. You can start by asking your landlord if you have permission to paint. Some landlords will allow this as long as you agree to paint it back when you move. You also have the option to upgrade your walls with removable wallpaper. Not only will this not damage the walls, but it comes in endless patterns and colors so you can surely find something to suit your style. If you don’t want to commit to an entire room, you can also just wallpaper one accent wall to add a bit of personality.

2. Change Out Light Fixtures

Unfortunately, many of the light fixtures that come with apartments are old and outdated. Fortunately, light fixtures are easy to replace. You can swap them out with fixtures that better suit your style and bring you joy. Just be sure to hang on to the old fixtures so you can change them back when you move out.

3. Spruce Up Your Kitchen

Are you looking to modernize your kitchen and add some of your own style? Installing new cabinets and countertops is not an option since you are renting the space. However, there are some great options for creating a temporary stylish kitchen. Start by adding a temporary backsplash. These are available in a variety of colors and styles and they are so easy to apply. Next, add some strip lighting under the cabinets to brighten up the area. Finally, consider a rolling cart or island to give you additional storage and prep space.

4. Add Plenty of Lighting

You want to make your space feel warm and inviting and one of the best ways to do that is by adding plenty of light. You can start by installing battery operated wall lighting to eliminate the need for bulky floor lamps. Then, you can opt for stylish desk lamps that can be placed on end tables or accent tables throughout the apartment. Table lamps will take up much less space than bulky floor lamps while still giving you the additional lighting you need.

5. Add Cozy Rugs

Whether your apartment comes with hardwood floors or carpeting, adding a few rugs will make the space look much cozier and more inviting. Don’t be afraid to play with fun textures, colors, and designs to add visual interest to the space.

6. Let in Natural Light

While artificial light is certainly necessary, you simply cannot beat the warmth and beauty of natural light. Try hanging sheer curtains that let in as much light as possible. Also, hang mirrors in various places to reflect the natural light. This will brighten up your apartment, making it feel homey and inviting.

7. Embrace Multipurpose Furniture

Living in an apartment isn’t always easy, especially when you are short on storage space. Luckily, there are plenty of products designed specifically for this purpose. Choose dual-purpose furniture pieces whenever possible. For example, choose a bench that can be used for seating or storage. You can also choose a work desk that can be expanded as a dining table. Multifunctional pieces maximize the usability of space and more apartment living more enjoyable.
